I really experimented with this one here. I have a decent spice tolerance and I decided to put that to the test by increasing the amount of spices to get a sense of what this bread would taste like. I wondered at what spice level would I no longer be able to get the banana bread taste. Eventually, I landed on a recipe that still achieves the goal of tasting like a banana bread but with a little bit of a kick.
My Recipe

- 2 cups of flour
- 1 teaspoon of baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon of kosher salt
- 1 stick of melted unsalted butter
- 1 cup of honey
- 1 teaspoon of chipotle pepper powder
- 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup of sour cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 2 bananas
*If you already have your own banana bread recipe, there’s no need to follow mine. Just substitute the sugar for 1 cup of honey
Instructions
Blend together the bananas in a food processor or a blender. Pour blended bananas into a large bowl. Put in your baking soda, salt, melted unsalted butter, sour cream, eggs, vanilla extract, chipotle pepper powder, cayenne pepper, cinnamon, and honey. You want to put your flour through a sifter ½ cup at a time to break up the flour because it will come out as little clumps when you slice your bread. Make sure when you have everything in your bowl you mix everything together with a spoon first then an electric mixer. Put the mixture in a loaf pan.
Preheat oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Bake for 1 hour.
*Pepper flakes are optional
